Deepak Bijalwan

Master's in Business Administration, JMIT INstitute, haryana

My name is Deepak Bijalwan. I live in Rishikesh with my family and I have four sisters. My father is a Security guard in the Jal Nigam department. He does not earn sufficient money to fulfill all our needs. Due to my parent’s lack of education, they always wanted all of us to be educated and to go to a good college and become successful in life, but they couldn’t afford it. My family moved from a village to Rishikesh in the hopes of giving us a better education.

When I was growing up, I watched my mother and father’s hard work, and this motivated me to never give up no matter how difficult the conditions became. Since I was 5 years old, I used to sell cucumbers in summer time so I could help my family financially. I pretended that I had my own business, so it was from a very young age that I knew I would be a businessman.

In 2006, when I was in 5th grade, I joined Mother Miracle School’s afternoon program. There I met the founder of Mother Miracle School, Shahla Ettefagh. I learned English, computer, art, yoga, karate, and sports. That same year, Shahla Ma’am found me a sponsor named Demetre Savala, and he agreed to support my education until the end. This encouraged me! Now I am studying not only for my family, but also for him.

Even though my family is very loving, supportive and kind, seven of us lived together in one room, and this was not quite favorable for me to focus on studying. I was sleeping on the floor with my father and mother, and my four sisters were sharing one bed. Some nights I would take my books and notebooks outside of the house and study under the public lights.

In 2008, Shahla Ma’am started sheltering twelve boys in the school and I was selected because my grades were always very good and she saw I was determined and had great potential. In the school, she provided me with a blanket, pillow, mattress, and a classroom with a light and fan to sleep at night, with a meal three times a day so I could concentrate on my studies. I helped with office work, managing school, supervising construction, moving furniture, and being a big brother for the little kids at school. I try so hard to be an example of a good human being so the next generation can look up to me. During my free time in between chores, I learned the skills I needed to become a business manager.

Because I had a good environment at Mother Miracle to study and grow, in 2011, I graduated 10th grade with first division and I was very happy. When my father looked at my report card, it was the first time I saw tears of pride rolling down from his eyes. I decided then that I would not stop until I got my Master’s degree in Business Administration. My hard work continued, and I graduated 12th grade in 2013 among the top students in my class. Later I enrolled at Omkarananda Institute of Management & Technology in Rishikesh to get a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.

Over the past 10 years, I’ve kept up with my sponsor, Demetre, by writing him, sending him photos, and sharing my grades twice a year so he knows about my academic success and growth. Throughout my three years of college, I was still a part of the Mother Miracle family and got to help them, and could sleep at the school with my Mother Miracle brothers on any occasion. In 2016, I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business!

After I graduated, I wanted to continue my education and get admitted to a better university for my Master’s degree, so I sent a letter to Demetre and asked for his help in the situation. With my perseverance and the support of Shahla Ma’am, Demetre agreed to sponsor me for another two years. I will be joining JMIT Radaur College in Haryana in August 2016. I am so happy because two of my Mother Miracle buddies are also studying in the same college!

Since I was five years old, I dreamt of studying business and becoming a successful man who could provide for my family, and now it seems that it’s going to be reality soon! I will never forget Shahla Ma’am and Demetre Sir who believed in me and gave me a chance to succeed. I will always be there for her and support her dream when I become successful.
